Roughlock Falls
An easy one-mile creek-side path in the heart of Spearfish Canyon ending at a multi-tiered limestone waterfall, with boardwalks and benches the whole way. It is the canyon's signature falls and the most accessible. Good for all ages and a short stop off the byway.
Spearfish Falls
A short but steeper out-and-back from the Latchstring area dropping to a viewing deck below a 47-foot falls, roughly three-quarters of a mile each way. The climb back out is the only real effort. The prettiest single waterfall in the canyon.

Matthews Opera House & Arts Center
A restored 1906 opera house downtown running a year-round calendar of theater, music, and community productions, with a fine-art gallery on the main floor. The room is intimate with a balcony and reasonable tickets. The cultural anchor of town and a good rainy-evening plan.
Termesphere Gallery
A geodesic-dome studio just outside town displaying Dick Termes's painted spheres, hand-painted globes built on a six-point perspective that shift as they rotate. Admission is free and the artist or family often walks you through it. A genuinely unusual stop unlike anything else in the region.

D.C. Booth Historic National Fish Hatchery
An 1896 federal trout hatchery turned free-to-roam park, with underwater viewing windows, restored ponds you can feed, a historic superintendent's house, and a rail car of fish-stocking history. The grounds stay open dawn to dusk year-round even when the buildings close for winter. A genuinely pleasant hour that costs nothing.
Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway
A 22-mile drive on Highway 14A through a limestone gorge of sheer walls, spruce, and creek-side pullouts, linking the town to the canyon's waterfalls and the old Savoy junction. The cliffs and fall color are the reason locals never tire of it. The best slow drive in the northern Hills.
