The trail is well-maintained, largely flat, and remarkable for how wild it feels given its proximity to suburban Shelburne. Birding is excellent in the wetland sections.
Shelburne Farms Walking Trails
The footpaths threading through the 1,400-acre Shelburne Farms estate, connecting the lakeside to the maple sugar bush, forest trails, and working farm fields designed by the Olmsted firm. The 1.5-mile trail to the lakeside gives access to unobstructed Champlain views. The trails are open during daylight hours and provide the closest thing to walking in a privately maintained Vermont landscape.

Shelburne Museum

Shelburne Farms
A 1,400-acre working farm, forest, and National Historic Landmark on Lake Champlain designed by Frederick Law Olmsted's firm as a model agricultural estate for a Vanderbilt family member. Today it operates as a working dairy, cheddar cheese producer, and education center, with walking trails through the farm and forest, a children's farmyard, and the bakery in the former coach house. The views over the lake to the Adirondacks are extraordinary.
