Halibut Point Trail
The signature loop at Halibut Point State Park and Reservation, a 1.7-mile circuit that earns its reputation as the best easy hike on Cape Ann. The route passes through coastal scrub forest, skirts the flooded Babson Farm Quarry — a 60-foot-deep former granite pit now reflecting the sky — and emerges onto dramatic open granite ledges at the ocean's edge. On clear days the view extends to the Isles of Shoals and Mount Agamenticus in Maine.
Halibut Point Reservation (The Trustees)
Adjacent to Halibut Point State Park and managed by The Trustees of Reservations, this coastal property extends the granite headlands experience with additional wooded paths and wider ocean views. The two properties share a continuous landscape of exposed Cape Ann granite and coastal heath — together they form one of the most dramatic shoreline walks in northeastern Massachusetts. Free to enter from the Trustees' trailhead on Gott Avenue.

Shalin Liu Performance Center
Rockport's cultural centerpiece: a 330-seat oceanfront concert hall at 37 Main Street that opened in 2010 and quickly became one of the most celebrated intimate venues in New England. The two-story glass wall behind the stage frames a live ocean view, making the setting part of the performance. Rockport Music presents classical, jazz, folk, and world music year-round, including the acclaimed Rockport Chamber Music Festival, the August Jazz Festival, and Metropolitan Opera HD broadcasts.
Rockport Chamber Music Festival
An annual festival held at the Shalin Liu Performance Center that draws internationally recognized chamber musicians for about a month of performances from mid-June into July. Now in its 44th season, it has become a genuine destination event for music lovers on the East Coast, with programs mixing standard chamber repertoire and world premieres. The intimate venue size and ocean backdrop make even familiar works feel extraordinary.
Landmarks & sights
Motif No. 1
A weathered red fishing shack on Bradley Wharf that has been called the most-painted building in America. Artists began gathering here in the early 20th century to capture its simple geometry against Rockport Harbor, and the tradition continues. The current structure is a 1978 replica of the original, which was destroyed in the Blizzard of '78. At dawn or dusk the light on the harbor is extraordinary, and fishing boats still moor at the adjacent wharf.
Bearskin Neck
A narrow granite peninsula jutting into Rockport Harbor, lined with shingled cottages converted into galleries, boutiques, and seafood spots. The neck stretches about a third of a mile from Dock Square to the breakwater and is the social and visual center of Rockport. A cannon embedded in a building bell tower recalls a skirmish here during the War of 1812. The far end of the neck has open-water views and a small breakwater where anglers cast.
