Thatcher Woods Forest Preserve
A 245-acre Cook County forest preserve along the Des Plaines River just west of Oak Park with natural-surface trails through mature oak woodland, wetland edges, and river bottomland. The woods have a genuine old-growth feel in sections and the river views are particularly good after rain. An excellent half-hour drive from downtown Oak Park.
North Branch Trail (Chicago Botanic to Caldwell Woods)
A 20-mile forest preserve trail running north from the Chicago city limits through a connected series of forest preserves to the Chicago Botanic Garden, passing through oak savannas, wetlands, and prairie restorations. Accessible from several Oak Park and River Forest neighborhoods as a starting loop. One of Chicago-area's premier long trail runs.

The self-guided walking map from the Frank Lloyd Wright Trust covers more than 25 buildings within a few blocks of the Home and Studio, including work by Wright's contemporaries that shows the Prairie style in full bloom. Guided tours are also offered. The most concentrated collection of Prairie architecture in the world, accessible on foot.
Oak Park Festival Theatre
A professional summer repertory theater operating under Equity contracts in the outdoor Austin Gardens, producing Shakespeare and classical works from June through August. Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio
The complex where Frank Lloyd Wright lived and worked for the first 20 years of his career is preserved as it appeared when he left in 1909, with original furnishings, built-in furniture, and the playroom he designed for his children. Tours are given by the Frank Lloyd Wright Trust and run throughout the day. The surrounding neighborhood holds additional Wright buildings visible from the street.
Unity Temple
A 1905 reinforced concrete Unity Temple by Frank Lloyd Wright, considered a landmark in the history of modern architecture for its manipulation of space, light, and geometric form. The building is still an active Unitarian Universalist congregation and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Self-guided and docent-led tours are available.
