Cranbury Park Trail
A 227-acre former country estate in northern Norwalk with a network of winding wooded trails through deep hardwood forest and open meadow, centered on the Romanesque-style Gallaher Mansion. The main loop is 1.5 miles and takes about 30 minutes at a relaxed pace, making it accessible for families and easy enough for all fitness levels. The park also has a disc golf course and a dog run for a full outing.
Norwalk River Valley Trail
A 38-mile multi-use trail following the Norwalk River from Calf Pasture Beach all the way to Danbury, passing through Wilton, Ridgefield, and Redding. The southern Norwalk section is flat, wide, and ideal for casual walkers, joggers, cyclists, and families with strollers. Spacecat Brewing Company
Norwalk's most beloved brewery, occupying an open-concept former factory space on Chestnut Street with a warm, industrial-chic taproom and a rotating lineup of well-made beers. The seasonal program runs from crisp hefeweizens in summer to complex weizenbocks in winter, with a reliable core range year-round. No kitchen, but a rotating roster of food trucks parks outside on weekends. Dog-friendly, family-friendly, and consistently packed with locals.
Shakespeare on the Sound
A beloved summer tradition since 1996, presenting professional outdoor productions of Shakespeare in Pinkney Park on the banks of the Five Mile River in Rowayton. The setting — a gazebo-backed lawn with harbor views — is uniquely beautiful, and the productions are consistently strong. All performances are free with a $20 suggested donation. Runs for roughly two weeks each July.

The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk
The only aquarium in the U.S. dedicated entirely to Long Island Sound, housed in a converted 19th-century ironworks building on the Norwalk River waterfront. Over 7,500 animals including sand tiger sharks, harbor seals, and diamondback terrapins, plus four touch tanks where you can handle cownose rays and Atlantic sturgeon. The 4D theater adds sensory surprises — wind, mist, scent — to the screen. It is the anchor of SoNo and the reason families plan around this neighborhood.
Sheffield Island Lighthouse & Ferry
A three-hour ferry excursion run by the Norwalk Seaport Association that takes you out to a 10-acre island in Long Island Sound, home to a 19th-century Victorian stone lighthouse and a short nature trail through shorebird habitat. Knowledgeable crew share the story of Norwalk's maritime past during the crossing. Visitors consistently call it a best-kept secret in Fairfield County. Operates May through October, departing from Calf Pasture Beach.
