Marechiaro - Parco Virgiliano Loop
A 4-mile coastal loop through the Posillipo headland that begins at the small fishing hamlet of Marechiaro and climbs through residential lanes to Parco Virgiliano at the top, with continuous bay views across to Capri, Ischia and Procida. Teatro San Carlo
The oldest continuously operating opera house in the world (1737), predating Milan's La Scala by 41 years, with a horseshoe of gilded tiers and a ceiling that transforms acoustics from every seat in the house. Museo di Capodimonte
Southern Italy's largest art museum occupies the Bourbon royal palace in its own forested park above the city, with Caravaggio's Flagellation, Titian portraits, Raphael cartoons and the Farnese collection across three monumental floors. The park surrounding it is a proper public green space used by local families as much as art visitors.

Museo Cappella Sansevero
A tiny 18th-century private chapel that contains the Cristo Velato — a life-sized marble figure of Christ in a burial shroud so realistically rendered that generations of viewers have suspected the fabric itself was petrified. The room also holds the Disillusion figure and two anatomical machines in the basement. One of the most extraordinary rooms in Italy.
Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli
The single most important collection of Greco-Roman antiquities in existence, built on the Farnese collection plus virtually everything excavated from Pompeii and Herculaneum: the Alexander Mosaic, the Farnese Hercules, the Secret Cabinet of erotic objects, and rooms of carbonized artifacts from the buried cities. Allow at least three hours.
