Westlake Fish House
Perched on the Westlake Marina docks with tables directly above the water, this is Montauk's most reliable all-around seafood spot — fresh sushi, New England chowder, raw bar, and live music in-season. The Infatuation sends people here specifically because it doesn't pretend to be anything it isn't: dockside fish house, properly run. The fish changes daily based on what comes in.
South Edison
Two blocks from the ocean in the village, South Edison runs a lively dining room with genuinely exciting seafood — oysters, crudo, and rotating daily fish — plus one of the better wine lists in Montauk. Less scenically located than the harbor spots but more focused on what's on the plate. The brisket smashburger is a serious detour from the seafood menu worth ordering.

Montauk Point Loop Trail
A 5.5-mile loop along Montauk's easternmost bluffs where the ocean wraps on three sides and the historic lighthouse anchors the far point. The trail runs above the water on a mix of packed sand, blufftop paths, and wooded sections — more varied than it reads on a trail card. Wildlife sightings of seals and harbor porpoises are common in the colder months.
Camp Hero Bluff Trail
A shorter loop through the former military base at Camp Hero that drops to the rocky Atlantic shore and circles back through abandoned WWII infrastructure. The combination of wild ocean access, old bunker ruins, and the looming radar dish makes it unlike any other trail in New York. Under 3 miles and mostly flat — easy for any fitness level.

Montauk Sportfishing
The collective of charter fishing boats based at Montauk Harbor represents some of the best sportfishing on the East Coast, with half-day and full-day trips going out for striped bass, bluefish, fluke, and tuna depending on the season. This isn't a tourist gimmick — the fleet is working fishing boats and the captains are professionals. The fall striped bass run is genuinely world-class.
Gosman's Dock
The historic waterfront complex at the western end of the harbor has shifted over the years — the main restaurant has had ownership changes — but the dock area remains the most authentic Montauk harbor experience for casual visitors who want to eat fish while watching boats unload. The clam bar format means you order at the counter and eat on the dock, which is still the best way to experience the harbor.
Landmarks & sights
Montauk Point Lighthouse
New York State's oldest lighthouse (completed 1796) sits at the very eastern tip of Long Island where the sound and the Atlantic collide. The museum inside traces the lighthouse's role in the whaling era, and climbing to the top gives a 360-degree ocean view on three sides. It's inside Montauk Point State Park — Camp Hero is immediately adjacent, so the two make a natural afternoon pairing.
Camp Hero State Park
A decommissioned WWII-era military base turned state park, with ruined bunkers, a massive Cold War radar tower that looms above the bluffs, and trails that drop to secluded ocean beaches. The blend of overgrown military infrastructure and wild Atlantic coastline is unlike anything else in the Northeast. Fishing from the rocky bluffs here is world-class in fall.
