The Silver Fork
Manchester's most decorated restaurant occupies a converted historic library in Manchester Village, where a chef-owned kitchen turns out an international menu built on Vermont ingredients. Dishes move from Moroccan-spiced lamb to perfectly seared duck breast across a menu that changes with the season. The wine program is serious without being intimidating.
Up for Breakfast
A tiny breakfast nook tucked above an antique shop on Depot Street, all yellow walls and Tiffany lamps, serving fluffy pancakes with Vermont maple syrup, vegetable scrambles, and excellent coffee. The lines form early because the room holds maybe 30 people. It's worth the wait.
Trails & outdoors
Lye Brook Falls Trail
A 4.6-mile out-and-back through the Green Mountain National Forest to a 125-foot waterfall — Vermont's highest. The trail gains 950 feet steadily through mixed forest and is moderately challenging. The falls themselves are tucked in a narrow canyon and most impressive during spring snowmelt or after heavy rain.
Prospect Rock Trail
A 3-mile round trip with 900 feet of elevation gain to an open ledge with panoramic views over Manchester Center, the Batten Kill Valley, and the Taconic and Green Mountain ranges on both sides. It's one of the best short summit views in southern Vermont and rarely crowded outside fall foliage season.

Hildene Events and Farm Programs
Beyond the estate tour, Hildene runs a full seasonal program of events: winter snowshoe tours by lantern light, spring maple sugaring on the farm, summer evening concerts on the meadow, and fall foliage walks with historic context. The farm's goat cheese is sold on-site and at Manchester markets.
Dorset Theatre Festival
A summer professional theater company running in the historic Dorset Playhouse, a 200-seat barn theater in the village of Dorset, 10 minutes north of Manchester. The season typically runs June through August with a mix of new American plays and classic revivals. One of New England's most respected summer theater programs.

Hildene, The Lincoln Family Home
Robert Todd Lincoln's 24-room Georgian Revival mansion sits on 412 acres in Manchester Village with sweeping Battenkill Valley views, a restored 1903 Pullman railcar, working farm, and 12 miles of trails. The estate tells the full Lincoln story across four generations — more historically layered than most presidential sites. The goat cheese operation on Dene Farm is genuine.
American Museum of Fly Fishing
A small but genuinely excellent museum in Manchester Village holding the world's largest collection of fly fishing tackle and artifacts — including rods that belonged to Ernest Hemingway, Bing Crosby, and Dwight Eisenhower. The rotating exhibitions are more engaging than you'd expect even if you've never picked up a rod.
