Green River Bluffs and Heritage Loop
The most popular surface trail in the park, a moderate loop that climbs through hardwood forest to dramatic sandstone bluffs high above the Green River with sweeping views downstream. The Heritage Trail section passes remnants of historic homesteads and a sinkhole field that illustrates the cave system's influence on the landscape above. A rewarding 2-3 hour outing that pairs well with a cave tour.
Echo River Spring Trail
A flat, paved 2.2-mile accessible trail starting from the Green River Ferry parking lot and leading to a remarkable 'blue hole' where the underground Echo River visibly bubbles up through the riverbank into the Green River — you're literally watching water emerge from inside the cave. One of the most unusual natural phenomena in the park and almost nobody makes the detour for it.

Mammoth Cave Historic Tour
The flagship cave experience at one of the world's great natural wonders, the Historic Tour leads through vast rooms where saltpeter was mined during the War of 1812, where tuberculosis patients sought underground healing in the 1840s, and where ancient Native Americans explored 4,000 years ago. The scale of passages like the Rotunda — two acres in one room — has to be seen to be understood.
Frozen Niagara Cave Tour
The most formation-rich of Mammoth Cave's tours, a 1.25-hour walk through passages packed with flowstone, stalactites, and the spectacular 75-foot Frozen Niagara flowstone cascade — nicknamed for how it looks like a waterfall frozen in stone. It's the easiest cave tour physically and the best one for guests who want maximum visual impact in minimal time. Great first cave experience for those with kids or limited mobility.
