Hammonasset Beach State Park Walk
The 3.3-mile out-and-back along the Hammonasset Peninsula — walking from the main beach entrance toward Meigs Point, with salt marsh on one side and Long Island Sound on the other for much of the route. Flat, easy, and one of the best coastal walks in Connecticut for variety: beach, marsh, tidal flats, and rocky shoreline all within a short stretch.
Meigs Point Trail
A short nature trail looping around the rocky eastern tip of Hammonasset Beach State Park — a 1-mile circuit between the sandy beach and the salt marsh, with excellent tidal pool access and close-in views of the Long Island Sound horizon. The Meigs Point Nature Center at the trailhead is free and worth the stop.

Madison Art Cinemas
A beloved independent movie theater on Boston Post Road that has been showing films in Madison since 1928 — one of the oldest continuously operating cinemas in Connecticut. The programming is mainstream with a leaning toward quality independent and foreign films; the Art Deco styling and small-town movie-house atmosphere make it a genuine cultural institution.
R.J. Julia Author Events
The author events program at R.J. Julia Booksellers regularly brings nationally recognized writers to Madison for readings and conversations — a literary calendar that punches well above the town's size. Events are ticketed and include a book purchase; the intimate scale of the events (rarely more than 100 people) makes them genuinely worthwhile.
Landmarks & sights
Hammonasset Beach State Park
Connecticut's largest public beach — two miles of Long Island Sound shoreline on a peninsula that also contains salt marshes, tidal flats, and one of the best birding sites in the state. The Meigs Point Nature Center at the tip of the peninsula is free and surprisingly excellent; the marsh boardwalk loop around the point offers a completely different experience from the main beach. Excellent campground for those inclined.
Madison Green and Historic District
A classic New England village green surrounded by 18th and 19th-century architecture — the Allis-Bushnell House museum (c.1785), the First Congregational Church steeple, and a walkable corridor of independent shops and galleries. The Madison Historical Society runs the house museum; the green itself is the social center of the town on summer evenings.
