The most scenic segment of the 26-mile Wabash Heritage Trail follows the river south from Happy Hollow Park to Fort Ouiatenon — shaded bottomland hardwood, open meadow sections, and good river views throughout. The trail is paved, flat, and accessible to cyclists and joggers equally. The Fort Ouiatenon end provides a proper historic landmark as a turnaround.
Celery Bog Nature Area
A wetland nature preserve on the west edge of West Lafayette that feels improbably wild for a suburban setting — migratory waterfowl, nesting birds, and a boardwalked path through restored marsh and upland habitat. The lake viewing platform is productive year-round and the surrounding trail is one of the better two-mile loops in the county. Birders in particular should not skip this.

Purdue Boilermakers Football at Ross-Ade Stadium
Ross-Ade Stadium holds 57,000 and a Big Ten game day here is one of the best mid-major college football atmospheres in the Midwest — the tailgate culture along the Purdue Mall starts hours before kickoff and the stadium itself has good sightlines throughout. It is a proper college football Saturday and tickets are generally available outside the Ohio State and Michigan games.
Purdue Boilermakers Basketball at Mackey Arena
Mackey Arena is one of the louder Big Ten basketball venues in the country — a 14,000-seat building where the student section, known as the Paint Crew, creates an atmosphere that has genuinely rattled visiting teams. Purdue basketball has been consistently competitive and tickets are harder to get than football. Worth the effort for any serious college basketball fan.

Purdue University Campus
One of the great American land-grant campuses — sprawling, self-serious about engineering, and unexpectedly beautiful along the Purdue Mall. The Bell Tower, Memorial Mall, and Slayter Hill sledding slope have the kind of institutional weight that takes decades to accumulate. Worth a walk even without an affiliation, especially if you can time it to a home football weekend.
Tippecanoe Battlefield
Eight miles north of Lafayette, the 1811 battlefield where William Henry Harrison's forces defeated Tecumseh's confederacy is one of Indiana's most significant historic sites. The interpretive museum is modest but honest about the complexity of what happened here, and the walking trail around the wooded battlefield is genuinely evocative. Quieter and more thoughtful than most battlefield parks.
