Squaw Trail
The in-town hike that climbs the cliffs right behind Kanab to overlooks of the whole valley. The full out-and-back runs about 3 miles with a steady switchbacking climb, but the first overlook comes quickly if you want a shorter version. Easy to reach on foot from downtown.
Sand Caves
A short walk north of town to man-made caverns carved into the Navajo sandstone, with arches framing views back over the highway. The hike itself is brief but ends with a steep slickrock scramble to reach the caves. Popular and easy to combine with Moqui Cave next door.

Landmarks & sights
Best Friends Animal Sanctuary
The country's largest no-kill animal sanctuary, spread across nearly 5,800 acres of red-rock Angel Canyon north of town. Free guided van tours run all day past the dog, cat, horse, pig and bunny areas, and you can sign up to walk a dog or have a cat sleepover at your room. It's the reason a lot of animal people end up moving to Kanab.
Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park
Rolling dunes of fine, salmon-pink sand backed against the cliffs about 25 minutes west of Kanab. Half the park is an open OHV play area; the other half is a quieter conservation zone good for barefoot walks and sunset photos. Rent a sled at the visitor center and slide the big dune.
