A 3.3-mile easy trail through Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge that transitions from live oak forest and inland wetlands through open scrub dune habitat before arriving at a quiet Gulf beach essentially undiscovered by the main resort crowds. The entire walk is flat, packed sand and boardwalk, with native wildlife at every transition zone.

Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo
A 25-acre zoo home to more than 300 animals including Barbary lions, tigers, wolves, lemurs, kangaroos, and sloths, with hands-on animal encounters that let you feed a giraffe or meet a sloth with a keeper present. It started as a rescue operation and still carries that working-zoo energy, where the staff knows the animals by name and daily talks happen at specific enclosures.
Big Beach Brewing Company
The southernmost brewery in Alabama and the first craft brewery on the Alabama Gulf Coast, brewing all its ales and occasional lagers on a ten-barrel in-house system in an open-air taproom with indoor and outdoor seating. No kitchen, but food trucks rotate through the courtyard and the atmosphere is firmly neighborhood-bar casual. Dogs welcome in the outdoor area.

Gulf Shores Public Beach
The white quartz sand that defines Gulf Shores stretches widest and most accessible right at the public beach off Highway 59. The Gulf here runs warm and calm most of summer, with showers, a pavilion, and lifeguards in season. It's the geographic and social center of town, where the sea road ends and the sand begins.
Gulf State Park
Six thousand five hundred acres of barrier island ecology stretching across nine distinct ecosystems, from coastal dunes and maritime forest to freshwater marshes and open Gulf beach. The park anchors the eastern end of Gulf Shores and offers two miles of its own public beach, the lengthy fishing pier, Lake Shelby, and the trailhead for the Branyon trail system.
