Cedar Brake Outer Loop
The longest and most challenging trail at Dinosaur Valley State Park covers 8.2 miles through cedar brakes, hardwood bottomland, and exposed limestone ridges with significant elevation change for North Texas. It's one of the better workout hikes within an hour of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, and the ridgeline sections offer wide views across the Paluxy River valley. Mountain bikers and equestrians share the trail on weekends.

Fossil Rim Wildlife Center Safari Tour
The self-guided vehicle safari at Fossil Rim is the primary reason most visitors drive to Glen Rose. Nine miles of paved road through conservation pastures where southern white rhinos, cheetahs, giraffe, addax, and dozens of other species roam openly. The animal interactions — particularly the giraffe that lean into car windows — are more immediate and uncurated than anything at a traditional zoo. Allow 2–3 hours.
Pecan Plantation Country Club (Golf)
A private-access 27-hole golf facility north of Glen Rose that accepts reciprocal play from members of other clubs and occasional guest rounds. The course winds through mature pecan groves along the Brazos River bottom, making it one of the more scenic course settings in Central Texas. The river holes in particular are worth the round regardless of score.

Dinosaur Valley State Park
The main reason Glen Rose exists on any tourism map: the Paluxy River runs across limestone bedrock where dinosaur tracks from 113 million years ago are exposed and accessible — you can wade the river and stand in three-toed theropod prints and the longer, four-toed sauropod trails. The 1,525-acre park also has 20 miles of multi-use trails through cedar and hardwood canyons, and the swimming holes in the river are some of the best natural ones in North Texas.
Fossil Rim Wildlife Center
A conservation-focused wildlife center where rare and endangered species — including cheetahs, white rhinos, African wild dogs, and southern white rhinos — roam large open-pasture habitats visible from a 9-mile self-guided vehicle tour. Fossil Rim actively breeds threatened species for release into wild populations and the vehicle tour puts you close enough to giraffe and zebra that they lean into car windows for food. It's nothing like a conventional zoo.
