Franconia Ridge Loop
Widely considered one of the finest day hikes in the northeastern United States, this 8.9-mile loop links three 4,000-footers — Little Haystack (4,780 ft), Mount Lincoln (5,089 ft), and Mount Lafayette (5,260 ft) — across a mile-long exposed alpine ridge with 360-degree views of the Presidential Range, the Pemigewasset Wilderness, and Vermont. The ascent via Falling Waters Trail passes Cloudland Falls (80 ft) before emerging on the ridge; the descent down Greenleaf and Bridle Trails is forgiving. Elevation gain is 3,900 feet.
Lonesome Lake Trail
A 3.1-mile moderate loop from Lafayette Place Campground that climbs 1,026 feet through northern hardwood forest to a pristine alpine lake with direct views of Cannon Mountain and the Kinsman Ridge. The AMC hut at the lake's edge is a welcoming waypoint for a snack, and the lake's reflection of the surrounding peaks makes this one of the most photogenic short hikes in the White Mountains.

Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway Ride
North America's first aerial passenger tramway, operating since 1938, makes the summit of Cannon accessible to everyone in an eight-minute ride. The 4,080-foot summit platform delivers sweeping views of five states on clear days, and the experience of hanging above the cliffs of Cannon is memorable regardless of the weather. The tram runs in summer for sightseers, in fall for foliage, and all winter for skiers.
The Frost Place Poetry Events
Beyond the museum experience, The Frost Place runs an acclaimed summer poetry program that hosts readings, workshops, and lectures by visiting poets on the grounds of Robert Frost's former farm. Evening readings in particular capture something of what the place must have felt like when Frost was composing here — the Franconia Range visible in the last light, complete quiet except for the wind. A genuinely literary experience that's unique to this corner of New Hampshire.

Franconia Notch State Park
One of New England's premier natural destinations, this 6,500-acre park threads a dramatic mountain pass between the Franconia and Kinsman ranges. The Flume Gorge — an 800-foot natural granite corridor with walls rising 90 feet above a rushing stream — is the signature attraction, but the park also holds Echo Lake, Profile Lake, The Basin (a glacially carved granite pothole), and the Lafayette Place Campground trailhead hub. A paved 9-mile recreation path runs the entire length of the park for biking and walking.
Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway
The first aerial passenger tramway in North America when it opened in 1938, Cannon's tram still carries visitors 2,022 vertical feet to the 4,080-foot summit in eight minutes. On a clear day the view encompasses the entire Franconia Notch, the Kinsman and Franconia Ranges, and on the best days stretches to Vermont, New York, and even Quebec. The summit has a viewing platform and a snack bar; the tram runs in summer, fall foliage season, and winter for skiing.
