Restaurants & cafés
Osteria DOP
A downtown Italian counter turning out blistered Neapolitan-style pizzas and handmade pastas in a casual, order-at-your-table setup. It punches well above what the room and the prices suggest.
Marche
The Willamette Valley farm-to-table standard-bearer, tucked into the 5th Street Public Market with a quarter-century of cooking from local growers behind it. Le Bar, the attached bar side, is the easier walk-in for a lighter meal.
Trails & outdoors
Spencer Butte Trail
The signature Eugene hike, a steady wooded climb to a rocky summit with a 360-degree view of the city, valley and Cascades. The loop is short but the final scramble is steep.
Mount Pisgah
A grassy oak-savanna butte just southeast of town with a steady summit climb that opens to wide Willamette Valley views. The open meadows make it feel bigger and more rural than Spencer Butte.
Things to do
Hult Center for the Performing Arts
Downtown Eugene's main performing-arts hall, home to the symphony and opera and a steady run of touring music and theater across two acoustically praised theaters. It is the city's go-to for a dressed-up evening out.
Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art
The University of Oregon's art museum, strong on Asian collections alongside European and American galleries and rotating shows. It is compact enough for an unhurried hour or two and a solid rainy-day stop.
Landmarks & sights
Cascades Raptor Center
A wooded hillside nature center and wildlife hospital with around 40 resident hawks, owls, eagles and falcons, most of them non-releasable birds with their own backstories. The aviaries follow a shaded loop path, so it doubles as a short walk in the trees south of town.
Owen Rose Garden
An 8.5-acre riverside garden with more than 4,000 roses plus a giant heritage cherry tree that erupts in pink each spring. It sits right on the Willamette next to the bike path, so locals fold it into a river walk rather than making a special trip.
