A flat, easy out-and-back walk of about 7km along the southern bank of the Elbe, starting at the Waldschlösschenbrücke and ending at the Loschwitzer Brücke — the blue suspension bridge known as the Blaues Wunder. The path runs along open meadows and tree-lined embankments with continuous river views.
Großer Garten Loop
Dresden's principal baroque park, about 5km of avenues and paths that converge in a star pattern toward the central summer palace. The perimeter loop includes Carolasee lake, the park railway (narrow-gauge steam train), and broad linden avenues. Flat, accessible, and in use year-round by joggers, families, and anyone who needs space.

Festspielhaus Hellerau
One of Germany's most important venues for contemporary dance, music, theatre, and performance art, housed in a 1911 festival theatre in Germany's first garden city suburb. Around 350 events per year span avant-garde dance, new music, media art, and international co-productions — it's where serious practitioners of contemporary performance come to work and perform in Dresden.
GrooveStation
A mid-sized Neustadt venue that splits its programme between live concerts and club nights, with a consistent bias toward rock, indie, hip-hop, and electronic music that earns more than genre tourism. The room has good acoustics, a proper stage, billiards tables, and an outdoor area. Local and international acts rotate through multiple times a week.
Landmarks & sights
Frauenkirche
Dresden's defining landmark: a Lutheran church destroyed in the 1945 bombing and left as a ruin throughout the Cold War, then painstakingly rebuilt stone by stone and reconsecrated in 2005. The sandstone dome dominates the Neumarkt and the interior is a masterwork of Baroque space and light. Free to enter, though the dome viewpoint requires a ticket.
Zwinger Palace
A late Baroque palace complex built for Augustus the Strong, housing three world-class collections: the Old Masters Gallery (Raphael's Sistine Madonna, Vermeer, Rubens), the Royal Porcelain Collection (the finest ceramics museum on earth), and the Mathematical-Physical Salon. The interior courtyard with its fountains and pavilions is as spectacular as the art inside.
