Standing Boy Trails
A nearly 30-mile natural-surface trail network in a 1,500-acre park on the Chattahoochee's north shore, built entirely with private funds and volunteer labor over more than a decade. The system covers everything from short, flowy beginner loops to technical mountain-bike descents with views over Lake Oliver. Hikers and runners share the network with bikers on all but two dedicated hiking-only loops.
Heath Lake Loop
A 1.9-mile loop around a city-managed lake in north Columbus, flat and paved, popular with early-morning walkers, birders, and families with strollers. The lake itself is scenic enough that the walk feels less urban than the surroundings suggest. Maintained restrooms, good parking, and a forgiving surface make it the city's most accessible easy walk.

National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center
A 190,000-square-foot museum dedicated to the American infantryman on 200 acres at the edge of Fort Moore, consistently rated among the best military museums in the world. Whitewater Express
The outfitter for the world's longest urban whitewater course — 2.5 miles of Class II through V rapids through the heart of Columbus — running guided raft trips at two intensities: family-friendly afternoon floats and the high-water evening runs when flows hit 13,000 cfs. Also operates the Blue Heron dual zipline, which sends you across the Chattahoochee River between Georgia and Alabama at 40 miles per hour.

Springer Opera House
Georgia's designated State Theatre, a beautifully restored 1871 performance house in the heart of Uptown. The ornate interior, with its tiers and Victorian-era moldings, is as much a draw as whatever is on stage. Productions range from Broadway-caliber musicals to intimate dramas, all performed in a room with serious historical resonance.
The Columbus Museum
The second-largest general museum in Georgia, covering American fine art and the regional history of the Chattahoochee Valley under one large roof in the Midtown neighborhood. The permanent galleries move from colonial-era maps to contemporary paintings without feeling scattered, and the hands-on Transformations gallery works for kids. Admission is free.
