The most consistent sushi destination in Champaign-Urbana sits on the main Campustown strip and has built a following well beyond the student crowd. The signature rolls are creative without being gimmicky — the menu runs from straightforward nigiri and sashimi through 21 house rolls, ramen, and sake-dan rice bowls. A late-night menu keeps things running past when most downtown spots close, and the dining room is sleek enough to not feel like a campus restaurant.
Big Grove Tavern
Champaign-Urbana's first farm-to-table restaurant anchors the corner of Main and Neil in downtown Champaign with a menu that rotates around what's in season from local farms and the weekly farmer's market. The kitchen makes nearly everything from scratch — burgers, tacos, salads, and steaks share a menu that shifts with the season. A string-lit patio overlooking Main Street is dog-friendly and among the better outdoor dining spots in the city.

Meadowbrook Park Trail
A 2.7-mile paved loop through Urbana's 130-acre Meadowbrook Park, winding past restored tallgrass prairie, an herb garden, wildflower plots, organic community garden beds, and the Wandell Sculpture Garden. Fifty-plus years of prairie restoration by the Urbana Park District and the Champaign County Audubon Society have produced an 80-acre native landscape with wild hyacinths, coneflowers, gentians, and milkweeds in season. Deer, hawks, and a large bird population use the park year-round.
Kickapoo Rail Trail
A 24.5-mile rail trail that follows former CSX tracks east from Urbana through Champaign County farm country toward Kickapoo State Park, passing through small communities, woodlands, wetlands, and some of the flattest, fastest cycling terrain in Illinois. The section from Urbana to St. Joseph is fully open and paved, making a 10-mile out-and-back the standard run. Sunrise and sunset on the open prairie sections are locally famous.

Blind Pig Brewpub
Champaign's only production craft brewery operates a beer-hall-style brewpub on Neil Street with 24 taps — 21 of them Blind Pig beers brewed two blocks away — alongside a full pub menu and a capacity that makes it comfortable for solo drinks or a large group. The Columbia St Coffee Stout, U of IPA, and Blind Pig Blue Pils are the anchors, but seasonal releases cycle through regularly. The outdoor seating area is pet and child friendly.
Rose Bowl Tavern
A musician-owned honky-tonk in downtown Urbana that books live music seven nights a week on an indoor stage and, in warmer months, outside. Under its musician owners the booking has become one of the more genuinely varied live music calendars in Central Illinois — folk, country, blues, bluegrass, and occasional avant-garde sets that defy easy categorization. The drinks are unpretentious and the room is small enough that there's no bad seat.

Krannert Art Museum
The second-largest fine art museum in Illinois sits free and open on the University of Illinois campus, holding more than 11,000 objects across 48,000 square feet — pre-Columbian Andean work, a serious 20th-century collection, and rotating shows drawn from national and international institutions. It is a genuine research museum, not a campus lobby, and the ancient Egypt and Asian galleries alone make the walk worthwhile. Six to ten special exhibitions run each year.
Krannert Center for the Performing Arts
A 300,000-square-foot performing arts complex on the Illinois campus with five indoor stages — including Foellinger Great Hall, regarded as one of the finest acoustic environments in the world — plus an outdoor amphitheatre. Over 300 performances run annually across theater, dance, opera, and orchestral music, often featuring internationally touring artists. The lobby alone, with its cantilevered balconies and natural light, is worth a walk-through.
