Griffy Lake Loop Trail

The forest is mature second-growth with a genuine understory, the lake views are lovely, and the trail is well-maintained enough to run. Spring wildflowers and fall color are the peak seasons.
Monroe Lake Recreation Area Trails
The Paynetown and Fairfax access areas on Indiana's largest reservoir offer a network of woodland trails along forested shoreline that feel genuinely remote despite the proximity to town. The trails range from easy lakeside walks to longer forest loops connecting multiple access points. Combined with a paddle or a swim, it makes for an ideal full-day outdoor itinerary.

IU Auditorium
The grand 3,800-seat performing arts venue at the heart of IU's campus, presenting a world-class season of orchestral concerts, Broadway touring productions, dance, and lecture series that would be impressive in a city ten times Bloomington's size. The building itself — limestone and art deco — is worth seeing. The IU Philharmonic and visiting orchestras make this one of the best classical music venues in the Midwest.
Buskirk-Chumley Theater
A restored 1922 vaudeville theater in the heart of downtown that operates as Bloomington's community performing arts and film venue — intimate, gorgeous, and one of the best small venues in Indiana. The programming ranges from indie film screenings and folk concerts to comedy and avant-garde performance. The seats are close to the stage and the acoustics are warm.

Indiana University Sample Gates
The ceremonial limestone entrance to IU's campus, where Kirkwood Avenue meets the heart of one of the most beautiful Big Ten campuses in the country. The tree-lined paths, Gothic limestone buildings, and the sheer scale of it make for one of the best campus walks in the Midwest. Wander toward Beck Chapel and the Jordan River for the quintessential Bloomington afternoon.
