You can tour the rebuilt Custer House and step inside the domed earthlodges of On-A-Slant Village. Two very different chapters of the river's history on one bluff.

A quiet bluff-top site on the north edge of Bismarck where a Mandan village once stood, marked by earthlodge depressions and an interpretive trail with sweeping Missouri River views. It is an easy, contemplative stop that most visitors miss entirely. A reminder of who lived here long before the capital.

A pocket-sized historic site downtown built around one of the oldest buildings in Bismarck, a former military supply post turned small museum with an old locomotive and church on the grounds. It is a quick step into the town's railroad-and-frontier origins right in the city centre. Easy to fold into a downtown stroll.
