Bisbee 1000 - The Great Stair Climb
The route the town's famous stair race follows: a 4.5-mile loop linking nine flights of the public staircases that thread between Old Bisbee's hillside houses, over 1,000 steps in all. You can walk it self-guided any day, art and odd corners along the way.
Mount Ballard via Mule Pass

Things to do
Queen Mine Tour
You put on a hard hat and slicker, climb aboard a real mine train, and ride 1,500 feet into the mountain while a retired Bisbee miner tells you how copper actually came out of these tunnels. The best hour in town and it's led by people who did the job.
Bisbee Mining & Historical Museum
A Smithsonian-affiliate museum in the old Phelps Dodge headquarters that tells the copper story and the human one beside it, with a standout mineral room and photographs of the town's rowdy heyday. The right first stop to make sense of everything else here.
Landmarks & sights
Lavender Pit
The mile-wide open-pit copper mine that ate the hill between Old Bisbee and Lowell, terraced in rust-and-mauve bands you can see from the highway pullout. The overlook is free and gives you the scale of what built this town better than any museum.
Copper Queen Hotel
The 1902 grande dame that anchors Old Bisbee, built by the mining company to house visiting investors and still running as a hotel. The saloon and wraparound veranda are the real draw even if you're not staying; it's also the town's most famously haunted building.
