Beehive Basin Trail
The area's marquee hike, climbing through wildflower meadows to an alpine lake ringed by jagged peaks north of the mountain. It is roughly seven miles round trip and rewards the effort with the kind of basin scenery people drive across the state for. Best from mid-summer once the snow clears.
Ousel Falls Trail
A short, mostly flat path from the Town Center down to a multi-tiered waterfall where two forks of the Gallatin meet. At under two miles round trip with a graded surface, it is the go-to for families, casual walkers, and anyone short on time. Crowded for good reason but still lovely early or late.

Warren Miller Performing Arts Center
An intimate 280-seat theater on the Big Sky school campus down in the Gallatin Canyon that punches well above a town this size, booking touring comedians, musicians, and acrobatic acts. The small room means there is no bad seat and the lineup runs heaviest in the winter season. It is Big Sky's cultural anchor when you want an evening indoors.
Lone Peak Expedition
The guided tram-and-vehicle trip from the resort base to the 11,166-foot summit of Lone Mountain. Guides talk geology and wildlife on the way up, and the summit views span three states and two national parks on a clear day. The single most memorable thing to do here that does not require ski legs.
Landmarks & sights
Soldiers Chapel
A small stone-and-timber memorial chapel in the Meadow Village, built in 1955 by the Story family for a son lost in World War II. The picture window behind the altar frames Lone Mountain head-on, which is why it ends up on so many local mantel photos. Worth a quiet five minutes even if you are not religious.
Historic Crail Ranch
The restored homestead cabins of the Crail family, who ranched this meadow long before the resort existed. Volunteers run it as a small open-air museum, and the walk out to it doubles as an easy flat stroll along the West Fork. It is the one spot in town that explains what Big Sky was before the chairlifts.
