Capital Crescent Trail
A paved rail trail running about 7 miles from Georgetown in DC to downtown Bethesda along the Potomac — one of the most popular urban trails in the country and the connective spine of Bethesda's outdoor recreation. The onward Georgetown Branch extension to Silver Spring has been closed since 2017 for Purple Line light-rail construction (a rebuilt, grade-separated trail and a new Wisconsin Avenue tunnel are due to reopen around 2026). Excellent for cycling and running.
Cabin John Trail
A 5.3-mile natural-surface trail through Cabin John Regional Park in North Bethesda — the most genuinely forested hiking experience within Bethesda's reach, with a creek running through much of its length and terrain that includes rocky outcrops and ridge sections. The contrast with the suburban surroundings is dramatic; it genuinely feels like wooded wilderness within a five-minute drive of strip malls.

Round House Theatre
A professional theater company in downtown Bethesda presenting contemporary plays, classics, and premieres in an intimate 262-seat house. The programming ranges from Maryland premieres of off-Broadway plays to new works developed by the theater itself; the company has a strong local reputation built over four decades. One of the better theater experiences in the DC metro area.
Strathmore Music Center
The region's largest performing arts complex outside DC proper — a 1,976-seat concert hall hosting the National Philharmonic, touring musicians, dance companies, and major acts alongside an intimate 100-seat mansion venue. The outdoor summer lawn concerts are free and draw thousands; the indoor programming runs year-round.

Glen Echo Park
A former Victorian amusement park on the DC-Maryland border that was repurposed as an artists' colony and cultural center — the grounds hold a fully restored 1921 Dentzel carousel, a puppet theater, art studios, and a swing-dance hall that still runs weekend dances.
