Holmes County Trail
A 22-mile converted rail corridor running from Millersburg through Killbuck that is the only paved multi-use trail in the country built to accommodate both cyclists and Amish buggies, with separate asphalt and chip-seal lanes running side by side. The trail threads through working farmland, woodland patches, and small creek valleys, and the buggy traffic — especially in the morning — makes it a genuinely different kind of ride or walk. The Hipp Station trailhead in Millersburg is the best starting point.
Killbuck Marsh Wildlife Area Trails
Ohio's largest inland wetland system, with informal walking trails winding through marsh, bottomland forest, and upland edges that together attract over 200 bird species on migration. The walking is flat and occasionally muddy, which keeps the crowds thin and the wildlife undisturbed. Sandhill cranes stage here in significant numbers during spring and fall migration — a spectacle that rewards any amount of mud.

Buggy Rides at Yoder's Amish Home
Horse-drawn buggy rides piloted by active members of the Amish church across the hayfields surrounding the Yoder farm property — about three-quarters of a mile through the working landscape with the driver available for genuine conversation about Amish life. The ride is short enough that the quality of the conversation becomes the experience rather than the distance covered. It is the most authentic equine experience in the county.
Amish Quilt Shopping — Berlin Quilt Shops
Berlin's concentration of quilt shops — including Helping Hands Quilt Shop, a Berlin fixture since 1974, and several cottage operations on the side streets — represents the most direct way to acquire hand-stitched Amish quilts without the retail markup of the big commercial outlets. The quality range is wide, and knowing how to read the stitching density separates the heirloom pieces from the tourist-grade work. A circuit of three or four shops is an afternoon.

Amish and Mennonite Heritage Center
Home to Behalt, a 265-foot circular cyclorama mural that traces the full history of the Anabaptist movement from sixteenth-century Europe to the Holmes County settlements of today. The sheer scale of the painting and the guided narration turn what could be a dry exhibit into a genuinely affecting experience. Nothing else in the region comes close for historical context.
Guggisberg Cheese Factory
The birthplace of Baby Swiss cheese, developed here in the Doughty Valley where the mineral-rich pasture grass gives the milk a flavor that factory-scale producers cannot replicate. You can watch production through viewing windows, taste through dozens of varieties, and pick up smoked meats from the same counter. A serious cheese stop, not a tourist novelty.
