Tobico Marsh Trail
The signature trail of Bay City State Park loops 2.8 miles through one of the largest freshwater coastal wetland complexes on the Great Lakes — marsh, meadow, and oak savannah in sequence. Two observation towers give elevated views over the cattails, and the bird diversity during spring and fall migration is genuinely extraordinary. This is one of the best short nature walks in the Lower Peninsula.
Tobico Lagoon Trail
A 1.1-mile loop at the edge of the Tobico Lagoon in Bay City State Park, flat and accessible, that circles a quieter stretch of water often covered in waterfowl. It's the more meditative of the two Bay City State Park trails — shorter, slower, and frequently uncrowded even when the main Tobico Marsh loop is busy. Good for families with young children or anyone who wants a gentle wildlife experience.

State Theatre of Bay City
A Mayan Revival theater built in 1908 that was restored to full operating condition and runs a year-round calendar of live performances, indie films, comedy shows, and local productions. The interior is one of the most ornate small-city theaters in Michigan — gilded details, a sweeping balcony, and acoustics built before amplification was assumed. Going here on any given evening is worth it as much for the building as the show.
Tri-City Brewing Company
Bay City's most celebrated craft brewery holds the title of the area's favorite for three consecutive years, running 30+ taps of house-brewed beer, cider, wine, and house-made root beer from a spacious taproom with an outdoor beer garden. The rotating lineup skews toward well-executed German and Belgian styles alongside IPAs and seasonal specials. Food trucks park outside most evenings.

Center Avenue Historic District
A 1.5-mile stretch of lumber-baron mansions representing nearly every Victorian-era architectural style — Queen Anne, Romanesque Revival, Second Empire — built when Bay City was briefly the wealthiest city per capita in the country. Walking it on a summer evening, you can count the turrets and guess which tycoon was trying to out-build his neighbor. More than 250 of the structures are on the National Historic Register.
Saginaw Valley Naval Ship Museum (USS Edson)
The USS Edson is a Cold War-era destroyer docked on the Saginaw River, and 90% of the ship is open for self-guided exploration — engine rooms, torpedo tubes, the combat information center, bunk quarters, everything. Bay City was a major shipbuilding city during WWII, and the Edson sits in that lineage. Volunteers who served on the ship are sometimes on hand and will tell you things no placard could.
